The NHL Alumni Association mourns the passing of Bob Pulford, one of the most respected and influential figures in the history of hockey. At the request of the Pulford family, donations in Bob’s honor will support the Hockey’s Greatest Family Fund, which assists former players and their families financially, provides counseling services, health and dental in addition to addiction assistance. Bob understood that hockey’s greatest strength has always been its people, and this fund embodies that spirit.

Bob Pulford’s remarkable career spanned decades and left an enduring mark on the game at every level. As a player, Bob proudly wore the sweaters of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Los Angeles Kings. With Toronto, he captured four Stanley Cups and earned a reputation as one of the toughest, most dependable centres of his era. His leadership, competitiveness, and professionalism defined his time on the ice and set a standard for those who played alongside him.

Beyond his playing career, Bob was a trailblazer for players’ rights. In 1967, he became the first President of the NHL Players’ Union, helping lay the groundwork for modern collective bargaining and shaping the future of the game for generations to come. His impact extended well beyond the rink, as he worked tirelessly to advocate for players and strengthen the hockey community.

Bob continued to influence the sport from behind the bench and in the front office, serving as Head Coach of the Los Angeles Kings and the Chicago Blackhawks. He remained a vital part of the Blackhawks organization for more than 30 years, mentoring countless players, coaches, and executives who went on to lead teams across the NHL.

His lifelong contributions to hockey were formally recognized with his induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1991. In 2011, Bob was awarded the Lester Patrick Trophy, and in 2024, he and his teammates from the 1967 Stanley Cup–winning Maple Leafs were honored with the NHL Alumni Keith Magnuson Man of the Year Award.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to Bob’s beloved wife, Roslyn Pulford; his children, Wanda Lombardi (Dean), Rob Pulford (Elaine), Lindsay Barrett (Daniel), and Jennifer MacRitchie; and his grandchildren. Bob’s legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched—on and off the ice—as an integral member of the NHL Alumni family.

Rest in peace, Bob. Your impact on hockey, your leadership, and your compassion will never be forgotten.
